WE HAVE A TEAM TO HELP YOU

Our team is your team! We have staff and materials to support your outreach efforts to both clients and colleagues.

While skin cancer may be serious, promoting awareness can be exciting and even fun, when done thoughtfully. You Skin Crew members are a creative group. We encourage you to express this creativity and join forces to save lives. We can help you host events, collaborate with businesses and schools in your communities, share ideas for Zoom and in-person workshops, and connect with others in the Skin Crew.

When you’re ready to brainstorm with the staff at OHSU Dermatology, send an email to skincrew@ohsu.edu.

GET FREE MATERIALS

After you complete the Skinny on Skin course, you’ll get a packet of materials in the mail. When you need more, send an email to skincrew@ohsu.edu. This is what you can re-order (plus some other things for the general public):

FOR YOUR CLIENTS: Our cool tools we call “Client Cards.” These are the size of folded business cards and are packed with info. Hand them to clients who have problematic moles. Your eyes and these cards could save their lives.

FOR YOUR COLLEAGUES: 6×9-inch postcards that encourage skin-aware professionals to join the Skin Crew. Hand them to your colleagues. Give a stack to your local beauty or massage school. YOU are our eyes, and we need more of YOU to help spot skin cancer.

FOR YOUR BUSINESS: 5×5-inch stickers that say you’re a member of the OHSU SKIN CREW. Frame it and put on your wall or shelf, stick it to your mirror or other surface. Display your commitment to the health and well being of others. Download a version for social media.

HOW TO CLAIM YOUR CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDITS AFTER COMPLETING THE “SKINNY ON SKIN”

You must contact your profession’s licensing body to claim 2 Continuing Education Credits.

The free “Skinny on Skin” course has been approved for the following professionals licensed through the Health Licensing Office (HLO) for two hours of continuing education:

  • Athletic Trainers (HLO approval # 2019-01)
  • Certified Advanced Estheticians (HLO approval # 2019-01)
  • Direct Entry Midwives (HLO approval # 2019-01)
  • Tattoo Artists (HLO approval # 2019-12)
  • Body Piercers (standard and specialty) (HLO approval # 2019-12)
  • Electrologists (HLO approval # 2019-12)

Massage therapists can also claim 2 CE credits. OBM recognizes that this course is provided by an accredited institution of higher education and the topic can be described as “pathology of the human body” as the topic area for continuing education under Rule 334-010-0050.

The Skinny on Skin course was developed collaboratively by the national non-profit, Impact Melanoma, and by Oregon Health and Science University. You can add your name to the completion certificate that you earn at the end of the Skinny on Skin training, and present that to your licensing board if they require it. Impact Melanoma does not issue CECs, because Licensing and Continuing Education are managed state by state.

In Oregon, hair stylists, barbers and nail technicians do not require continuing education hours to retain their license.
